Two Structure Fires Reported In Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) - At approximately 7:08 p.m. on Monday August 19, 2013 the Jackson County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a structure fire located at 10625 US 75 Hwy.

The residence was a house trailer just outside of the City of Hoyt. The caller reported there was a fire in the kitchen of the trailer.

Local fire departments were dispatched to the scene. The fire was extinguished and the investigation determined the fire was caused by a faulty appliance in the kitchen.

The family was able to escape without injury and fire damage was limited to the kitchen area and a bedroom.

Red Cross was dispatched to assist the occupants. No injuries were report and the cost of the damages is unknown at this time.

During the fire near Hoyt the Jackson County Sheriff's Office received a second 911 call of a structure fire located at 27598 P RD north of Holton.

A fire in a shed was reported that was spreading to a house. Local fire departments were dispatched to the scene. Fire destroyed two outbuildings, however, fire crews were able to extinguish the fire limiting damage to the eastside of the residence closest to the outbuildings.

The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined, but arson is not suspected. No injuries were report and the cost of the damages is unknown at this time.
