OSAGE CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - Accident cleanup in Osage County went more quickly than expected Thursday.
A semi hauling a wind turbine tower from Colorado to Michigan went into the ditch last week Thursday on Highway 56 west of Osage City and overturned.
Thursday, KDOT crews had to close a stretch of the road while they brought in a crane to lift out the load. Authorities say the total weight was around 240,000 pounds.
KDOT originally expected the removal would shut down the highway from the K-31 to the K-99 junction for two days. Traffic will be flowing Friday. However, it will be one lane for both directions from 9 am until 3 pm. Flaggers will direct traffic through the area.
Crews said the turbine tower would be returned to Colorado for inspection.
