Trial Set For Man Charged With First Degree Murder

Jesus Daniel Valadez-Soto

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A trial is set for the man accused of killing a Topeka man in October.

Shawnee County District Court Judge Cheryl Kingfisher bound over Jesus-Daniel Valadez-Soto, 22, Monday during a preliminary hearing.

Valadez-Soto is charged with first degree murder in the killing of 75-year-old Hugo Jimenez Sr. outside the bus business he owned at Southeast 2nd and Quincy.

CJ Online reports that during Mondays hearing, a KBI firearms examiner testified they found the gun they believe Valadez-Soto used in a neighbor's freezer.

The Shawnee County coroner also testified that he believes the gun was fired about 12 inches from Jimenez's head.

A trial is scheduled to begin January 22.
