Trash Truck Catches Fire, Road Closed For Cleanup

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Some southeast Topeka roads were closed Friday morning while crews worked to clean up a massive diesel spill following a trash truck fire.

Crews tell 13 News the driver of the truck noticed it was smoking in the area of 1200 SE Lawrence around 7:40 a.m. Friday (2/08). They say the driver got out of the truck, saw diesel coming from the vehicle, and then it caught fire. Shawnee County Dispatch said the fire was out by 7:56 a.m.

Authorities say more than 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the truck. No injuries were reported. The mess was expected to be cleaned up by Noon.

There's no known cause yet for the start of the fire.
