Animals Safe Following Spare Tire Fire On I-470

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Crews responded Tuesday to reports of a fire involving a truck and horse trailer along I-470 between Fairlawn Road and SW 21st Street.

A red pick-up truck and white horse trailer were involved in the incident.

Another motorist flagged the woman down after noticing smoke coming from the Ford truck.

The truck's spare tire was touching the exhaust pipe, which caused the truck to catch fire. It had after market tires and the owner purchased it Monday.

Horses involved in the incident were okay following the fire. The woman also had a cat and a dog with her, which were also unharmed. .

There were no reports of road closures as of 4:05 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman was traveling from Osawatomie to Hays, Kansas.

Further details were not immediately released.
