TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A new leader, but the same goal of being a voice for the community.
The Topeka branch of the NAACP held a reception Friday night to honor outgoing board president Ben Scott. Community leaders joined chapter members in congratulating Scott for a job well done.
Scott says he's proud of how the organization increased its community engagement during his tenure. He also was proud of his work on issues such as jobs and racial profiling. Scott says work remains though in other areas, like school funding.
The board also welcomed new leader Delmar White. White says he wants to ensure the chapter is a voice for the common person and that they have a seat at the table for decisions impacting the community, such as education and Medicaid expansion. White says he hopes the chapter can serve to bridge the gap between community members and other entities.
