TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Hundreds of people braved the heat Friday evening to take steps toward better lives for babies.
The Topeka High School Drum Line kept the beat as teams hit the streets of Gage Park for the annual March for Babies.
Team "Wise Guys" led the way. This year's March of Dimes ambassadors Mason and Bryson Wise were born at 26 weeks, weighing less than two pounds each. Parents Derek and Meagan say treatments developed through March of Dimes research helped the boys' lungs and hearts develop. Plus, the organization was a resource for information and support as their boys spend more than three months in the NICU.
Money raised from the walk benefits the March of Dimes' efforts to prevent premature births and assist families when babies are born too early.
