TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topekans are gearing up to march for babies.
The March of Dimes hosted a kickoff lunch Friday for this year's "March for Babies" community fundraising walk. People got ideas for recruiting people to their walking teams and raising money.
They also heard from Jill Bronaugh, whose son, Nicholas, is among premature babies helped by March of Dimes research.
The annual walk is the organization's major fundraiser. Topeka March of Dimes division director Mike Jeffries says the money raised not only funds research into preventing premature births and providing new treatments to help premature babies survive, it also allows the March of Dimes to provide education and support for families of babies born too soon.
Topeka's March for Babies is Friday, May 4th at the Topeka Zoo. People can register teams or donate at www.marchforbabies.org.
