TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Even the Topeka Road Runners mascot, Reggie, found himself in handcuffs Wednesday.

The Road Runner turned into a "jail bird" to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Dozens of Topeka area community members agreed to be locked up for doing good. They donned stripes and posed for mugshots, but they were allowed more than one phone call from their "cell" at the Governor's Row House.

The goal was to raise bail money to support MDA. The annual Lock Up is a major fundraiser for MDA, providing help and hope to those living with more than 40 neuromuscular diseases. The help is in the form of programs and services, while the hope come from funding research into treatments and cures.

13's Melissa Brunner, who has served as co-emcee with Ralph Hipp of the local Labor Day weekend telethon segments, was among those participating in the lock up.
