TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)__One local church is working to collect thousands of gifts for kids who are in need of a wonderful Christmas.

Southwest Topeka Bible Church, along with volunteers and area families, are helping organization Samaritans Purse reach their year round project goal.

It's all a part of Operation Christmas Child. Topekans have been filling shoeboxes with toys, personal items, school supplies and even encouraging notes to send to children overseas.

The gifts will be shipped to kids in more than 100 countries and some will even be delivered by camels and dog sleds.

If you would like to donate to Operation Christmas Child, you can drop off gift-filled shoeboxes at the Topeka Relay Center or visit www.samaritanspurse.com/0cc.

You can also call Relay Center Coordinator Martha Springer at (785) 379-0531n for further questions.
