Topeka Residents Help Catch Cooper Thieves

Police thanked alert residents in northwest Topeka with preventing thieves from stealing copper.
Police responded just before ten to an alley between the 200 blocks of southwest Courtland and southwest Broadmoor.
CJ-Online reports residents saw a man climbing up a utility pole and cutting down copper wire.
Residents called in the suspicious activity and reported the man's van description and tag number.
The vehicle was gone before authorities got to the scene but it was later located near southwest 17th and Mulvane.
Police arrested the man and women inside the van and found the stolen copper wire.

Police arrested 31-year-old Carl Allen and 21-year-old Shauntel Cornelius in connection with the copper crime.
