FROM TOPEKA POLICE -- The Topeka Police Department is sponsoring Summer Camps for Topeka area children who are going into the 6th, 7th and 8th grade next school year. There are 50 slots available each week of the camp.

There will be three camps that are one week in length and are being held at the Landon Middle School. The first camp is June 6th-June 10th, the second camp is June 20th-June 24th and the third camp is July 25th-July 29th. Camps run from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm each day. The third day campers will learn the dangers of texting and driving, driving under the influence and they can participate in the POPAT (Police Officer’s Physical Abilities Test). And on day four, the campers learn about crime scene investigation and evidence collection and then they will participate in processing a simulated crime scene.

The last day will be Law Enforcement Scenario Competitions involving Suspicious Person Stops, Misdemeanor Traffic Stops, Felony Traffic Stops, DUI/Alcohol Stops, Crime Scene Scenarios and then the students will be given police scenarios and be asked to make decisions based on what they have learned.
