TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee Co. District Attorney Chad Taylor said Tuesday that an investigation continues into whether the Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority violated the Kansas Open Meetings Act. He also offered no timetable for its completion.

Interim Topeka City Manager Dan Stanley requested the inquiry late last month into the board's emergency meeting held March 29th. The board didn't notify the media until afterward, when they held a news conference to announce an agreement for CEO Janlynn Nesbett Tucker's termination.

The board met Tuesday and declined comment on the situation.

The board has contended previously that its attorney advised there was no open meeting requirement to officially notify the media of the emergency meeting. A 13 News examination of the Kansas Open Meetings Act indicates the board may have been correct.

The specific requirement is that notice of meetings must be provided to media if requested, either in writing or orally. KOMA also requires public bodies must only provide, time, place and date of meetings if requested and not whether a specific topic may be discussed.
