TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka Metro Transit Authority is keeping an eye on whether downtown redevelopment plans might impact bus routes.
The board of directors held a long-range planning meeting Monday with city operations officials. The board wanted more details on Kansas Avenue redevelopment plans.
The current proposal is to reduce a stretch of S. Kansas Avenue through downtown to one lane. Topeka Metro interim CEO Denise Ensley says, while city staff say the lane will be wide enough for buses to navigate, the board must evaluate how much congestion it might cause if buses stopped along a single-lane Kansas Avenue.
Ensley says most routes cross S. Kansas Ave. on the east/west streets, however, three routes that travel the street itself could be impacted. The board plans to keep in touch with the city as plans progress.
Ensley says the process is still in the early stages, so no route changes are imminent.
