Topeka Hospital Gets New Regional VP

Theresa Lewis, FACHE, PMP, has been selected as the regional vice president of Physician Services for St. Francis Health Center, Topeka, and two other facilities affiliated with the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System.

Theresa Lewis, FACHE, PMP, has been selected as the regional vice president of Physician Services for St. Francis Health Center, Topeka, Kan.; Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.; and Saint John Hospital, Leavenworth, Kan. All three hospitals are affiliates of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS), Denver, Colo.

In this newly created position, Lewis is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the overall strategy, operations and performance of the hospitals’ employed physician practices located in the state of Kansas.

“I am very excited about joining the hospitals in their faith-based mission and ministry of health,” Lewis says. “This is an opportunity to bring these hospitals and physician enterprises together to better serve our patients, providing quality care for the whole person, body, mind and spirit.”

Lewis brings more than 30 years of health care experience to her new position. Most recently, she served as the director of medical affairs and practice management with Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI). CHI is the second largest Catholic health care system in the United States. While there, she led the corporate team charged with performance and system standardization for physician enterprises, including strategy, organizational structure, recruitment, compensation, operations, quality and ambulatory information technology standards.

Prior to joining CHI, Lewis worked with Mercy Health Center of Central Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa, serving in a variety of acute care and ambulatory clinical leadership and administrative roles and advancing to the position of director of planning.

Lewis earned her master’s degree of public administration with a health care administration specialization from Drake University; her bachelor’s degree of liberal studies from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa; and a diploma of nursing from Mercy School of Nursing, Des Moines. She has recently received a certificate in theology at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.

Lewis was designated a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) in 2007 and serves as a mentor for the organization. She is a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and has served on their Survey Advisory Committee since 2008. She received the designation of project management professional from the Project Management Institute in 2009. She is a nationally recognized speaker on the topic of physician management and practice alignment and has been published nationally.
