TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka firefighters are getting an early start this year on efforts to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Members of IAFF Local 83 will hit the streets Friday and Saturday, filling the boot for MDA. Firefighters will be at various intersections from 9 am to noon Friday and again from 1to 4 pm Saturday. They'll hold out the boot and invite drivers to drop in cash.
Topeka firefighters had typically held their Boot Block in August. Organizers say they moved up the date in hopes of avoiding the intense summer heat. They also said it would give them more flexibility if they needed to reschedule due to inclement weather.
WIBW-TV has been a proud partner in the MDA Telethon each Labor Day weekend for nearly 40 years.
