TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Water main breaks are plaguing the City of Topeka. Crews say this past weekend could be the worst on record.
Close to 45 water mains have broken in the Capital City since Friday afternoon (8/10). Four crews worked throughout the weekend to repair the major breaks, but with the list still growing, they say they're prioritizing the rest.
A break at 515 S. Kansas Ave. closed the road from 5th to 6th Streets. Crews say the breaks are due to the dry ground, and increased water usage.
Another break in rural Wabaunsee County caused the Paxico rest areas to be closed for much of the day.
