TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Dozens of water main breaks around Topeka are leaving streets wet and with chilly temperatures, they could create a hazard.
A water main break on the Washburn University campus temporarily caused road blocks and flooded 18th Street and parts of Washburn Avenue. Those roads are open again, but caused damage to streets on campus. The water has turned into a slush, so be careful driving near that intersection.
Topeka police say they counted 28 water main breaks Sunday, 15 of them are still running, though not all are affecting traffic. They say the breaks are a common occurrence given the dry and very cold weather.
