 The Salvation Army showed its appreciation to major supporters and kicked off their annual Distribution Day.

The Salvation Army helps nearly 33 million people in the U.S. each year.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The Salvation Army showed its appreciation to major supporters and kicked off their annual Distribution Day.

The Salvation Army Advisory Board hosted breakfast with Majors Brian and Lee Ann Burkett at the charity's Topeka headquarters.

Over the next several days, more than 200 families in the community will receive gifts and food baskets from the Salvation Army.

The group also updated its red kettle campaign, so far, its netted $100,000, but they're hoping it can ring up $200,000 by Christmas Eve.
