TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka's USD 501 is among districts talking about making up snow days for children - and adults.
The Topeka Public Schools Board of Education held a special noon meeting Monday. It was a make-up for a meeting cancelled last Thursday night due to winter weather.
District spokesperson Ron Harbaugh says the board couldn't simply wait two weeks until its next meeting because board action is required to pay the bills. Those time-sensitive issues were resolved with a single item on Monday's agenda called "business by consent." The remainder of last Thursday's agenda will be made up at a later meeting.
Harbaugh said that was planned for Feb. 28, but, Monday afternoon, said the date was cancelled due to lack of a quorum.
Topeka students already are looking at making up snow days. Harbaugh says two snow days are built into the district's calendar. Those were used the Thursday before Christmas and last Thursday, Feb. 21. Friday the 22nd and any further snow days will be added to the end of the school year in May.
