TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka Police Department has some new wheels.

The department bought 25 new Ford Interceptor utility vehicles, designed specifically for law enforcement officers.

They've only got one interceptor on the road right now, but they will deploy the other vehicles over the next few months.

Captain Brian Desch says the new vehicles will help them do their jobs better.

"It's all wheel drive, so that's going to enable officers to get around quite a bit better during the winter months, when we have our snow storms," said Desch. "They're a little better acceleration than the older one, a little better gas mileage as well, so hopefully we'll see a little savings in fuel."

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office as well as the Kansas Highway Patrol are already using the Interceptors.
