Topeka Pastor Dies Saturday After July Crash

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Topeka pastor passes away nearly two weeks after sustaining life threatening injuries in a North Topeka car crash, according to church members.

His congregation confirmed West Side Baptist Church Pastor Kip Mickelson died Saturday night in a local hospital. Mickelson had served as Pastor of West Side Baptist church since July 1, 2011.

They said he suffered life threatening injuries in a July 29th car crash in North Topeka along Highway 24 and Kansas Avenue. The wreck shut down a portion of the highway for several hours.

Mickelson was a passenger, according to church members in a Chevrolet Cobalt that collided with a Dodge Ram. The Topeka Police Department have not released the passenger's name.

One member of the church who wished to remain off camera tells 13 News "He was a man of God, he will be missed."
