TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A hospitalized orangutan is said to be doing well.

Doctors had to perform an emergency hysterectomy five days ago on Lena, Topeka's 30 year old orangutan.

The hysterectomy was performed after doctors found the fetus Lena was carrying did not have a heartbeat.

Zoo officials say Lena is recovering nicely from Friday's surgery and that she is resting comfortably on a fluffy straw bed.
