TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The state's Transportation Secretary hopped on one of Topeka's metro buses to kick off free rides this week.
It's for Public Service Recognition Week.
Topeka Metro is offering the free rides through Saturday on the fixed routes for federal, state, city and county government employees.
Kansas Secretary of Transportation Mike King said this is his first time on the metro, and he's going to try to ride all week.
"For me, moving from a more rural part of the state to Topeka, I didn't realize the services that were provided," said King. "I could walk three blocks in either direction and hit a bus stop and I didn't know that before. And then I get dropped off about two blocks from works, so most days I should be able to ride the transit."
You can check out the fixed route schedule online at topekametro.org or by calling 783-7000.
