TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka's mayor offered hints Tuesday that a couple big Topeka facilities left vacant by companies leaving town may not be empty much longer.

Mayor Larry Wolgast spoke at the Topeka Independent Business Association's monthly lunch. Members asked him about the status of the buildings that formerly housed Jostens and Hallmark.

Wolgast says efforts to fill those buildings look promising. He says final touches are being worked out for a company that would put the Jostens facility back into use right away. He says talks also are in the works for the larger Hallmark facility to be developed long-term for several groups.

Wolgast emphasized that no deals are finalized.

Wolgast also updated TIBA on efforts to revitalize downtown Topeka and city government relationships. Wolgast said he is pleased by the private investments in the downtown projects. He also said he believes communication among council members and city officials is improved.
