TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-Topeka High School senior Leo Espinoza Jr. understands how important each blog post can be to his readers.
"I try and give each post something to talk about so that people are commenting and reading the article itself," said Espinoza.
Espinoza is one of 8 students chosen from all over the world to blog for the New York Times, which came as no surprise to his teachers.
"He's an excellent student, he is very goal oriented, he knows exactly what he wants. He is my I.T. go-to guy who is absolutely incredible," said Espinoza's Speech and Debate coach, Pam McComas.
He blogs about topics that students can relate to like standardized testing, applying to colleges and also opinion articles.
"I really like talking about controversial subjects because it sparks debate and I enjoy listening to people's perspective on those issues," said Espinoza.
His blogging talents got the attention of several colleges. He received his acceptance letters online.
"Opening up the email is pretty nerve-racking because your heart is beating. You are going to know whether you or not you are accepted," said Espinoza.
Espinoza is headed to Yale this fall. He is the first in his family to attend college. And he has an idea for what he wants as a career.
"I know I want to get into politics later in the future," said Espinoza.
