Joseph Hawker qualified to represent Topeka Collegiate School at the state level of the National Geographic Bee.
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--A Topeka Collegiate student has qualified at the state level for the National Geography Bee.
5th grader Joseph Hawker will compete in the bee on April 5th at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene.
Hawker won the school geography bee in early December.
To qualify for state, Hawker took a written exam, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society. Students with the top 100 scores in Kansas were invited to compete at the state level.
The winner will receive $100, among other prizes and a trip to Washington D.C. in may to represent Kansas in the national finals on May 20-22.
