TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Growing the Kansas economy was the focus of a forum for state Senate candidates Tuesday.
The Topeka Independent Business Association hosted the event at Topeka Country Club. It featured the six major-party candidates in the three Topeka-area Senate districts. Incumbent Republican Vicki Schmidt faces Democrat Terry Crowder in the 20th District; incumbent Democrat Anthony Hensley faces a challenge from Republican Casey Moore in the 19th District; and incumbent Democrat Laura Kelly faces Republican Dick Barta in the 18th District.
All agreed the state must create jobs by creating an environment attractive to businesses. The candidates also shared their thoughts on education funding and selection of Kansas Supreme Court justices.
13's Melissa Brunner moderated the forum.
Election day is November 6th.
