TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)—Downtown Topeka's about to get a lot livelier, starting August 5th. One Topeka business is helping their region grow.
The dress rehearsal of Jonathan Larson’s “Tick, Tick... Boom” is part of Top City Thursday on August 4th. One of the actors says it's a musical with lots of action and lots of potential to bring people downtown.
“This show is unlike any show you see in Topeka, especially in the space at Break Room. It's really intimate and very unique,” said actor Greg Myer.
Owners say bringing people downtown is one goal of the show.
"There's been a call for a long time by people wanting arts and entertainment downtown, this is our answer to that," said owner Chris Schultz.
The Break Room has offered other shows but Chris Schultz says this is their first true on stage musical.
All scenes and a total of 10 characters will be played by three actors, volunteering their time for the fun of performing. And they say they're excited for opening night and the business it brings.
"Any show in downtown Topeka will help revitalize it. Downtown Topeka is not exactly where most people think it should be right now and any sort of art helps out with that," continued Myer.
The musical will officially open Friday, August 5th. The show will continue to run the 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th.
