OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) _ A veteran Associated Press statehouse
correspondent, a Junction City newspaper publisher and a former
University of Kansas journalism dean were inducted into the Kansas
Newspaper Hall of Fame.
Those recognized Friday were Lew Ferguson, who served as AP
correspondent in Topeka for 29 years before his retirement in 1999;
John G. Montgomery, publisher emeritus of the Junction City Daily
Union and chairman of Montgomery Communications; and Del Brinkman,
dean of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass
Communications for 11 years and KU vice chancellor for academic
affairs for seven years.
The three were honored during the annual convention of the
Kansas Press Association. The KPA established the Hall of Fame in
1931 to recognize outstanding contributions to the newspaper
profession and to the state of Kansas.
