Teens Involved In Amber Alert Both Charged In Brown Co.
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - 13 News has learned the teenaged suspect and alleged victim from an Amber Alert last week will both face criminal charges in Brown County.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill's office said Monday that it will file counts Tuesday against Logan Burris for driving on an invalid license, obstruction and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
16-year old Jenna Marie Hord also will be charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and obstruction count.
Brown County Sheriff John Merchant said he also recommended a count of endangering a child against Burris, but Hill's office says it is not included in the counts they will pursue.
Authorities initially said Burris forced Hord into a car at a Leavenworth gas station last Wednesday night. A citizen spotted them driving through Hiawatha the next day. Authorities pulled them over and took the teens into custody following a short foot chase.
Merchant says Burris and Hord were turned over to Leavenworth County authorities Thursday night.
Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson declined to say whether Burris would face charges in his jurisdiction, citing that Burris was a juvenile at the time of the incident. Burris turned 18 Sunday.
