TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Helping Hands Humane Society (HHHS) wants to give you a helping hand keeping your favorite, furry, four-legged friends safe and healthy this Saturday, April 5, 2014. From noon until 4 p.m., they will host Tag Day at their Training and Engagement Center, 5720 SW 21st St.
For only $25, they'll microchip your dog or cat and register the chip for you. You can even save yourself a little bit of time by downloading a microchip application at www.hhhstopeka.org.
"Microchipping your pet is one of the best investments you can make," explained Justin Brokar, spokesperson for HHHS.
"Only 22% of lost dogs that enter a shelter are reunited with their families," he continued. " The return-to-owner rate for microchipped dogs is 52%. For cats, less than 2% are reunited with their owners while microchipped cats are reunited 38% of the time.
"For just $25 you can increase your chances of being reunited with a lost pet by up to 2,000 percent."
In addition to microchips, rabies vaccination will be available for $10. Animal Control will be there too to with pet licenses. You can even get their nails trimmed for $5.
And, if you happen to be there between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., they can meet Clifford the Big Red Dog.
If you go, your dog has to be on a leash or inside a carrier and all cats have to be inside a carrier. HHHS also asks that vicious dogs or ones in heat are left at home.
