TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A man was taken to the hospital by police who found him suffering from a gunshot wound in an alley.
Topeka police say they were called to 730 Western at around 11:39 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a gunshot victim in the alley by a dumpster. Police found him and had him taken to Stormont Vail Hospital. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Detective were able to develop a suspect early in the investigation leading to the arrest of Lapoleon Redmond III, 19 year old Topeka resident.
Redmond was located at a nearby apartment where he was taken into custody and interviewed by Topeka Police Detectives. Redmond was subsequently booked into to Shawnee County DOC with charges of Aggravated Battery and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
The victim is 21 year old Jakeem Coopwood. He suffered a gunshot wound from a handgun, transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
The incident is still underway and may have stemmed from an argument of undisclosed nature.
Redmond faces an enhanced bond for these charges.
