TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Fourth graders at one Topeka school took their lessons outside Wednesday.

Wanamaker Elementary held its annual "Learning in the Outdoors" day. Students took to the woods for hands-on experiences and interactions with living things, including the bugs and frogs they came across during their hike. Students also enjoyed their lunch in the great outdoors.

Teachers say seeing living things in their environments help the students learn more than what they might get from a book.

All kindergartners through fifth graders get the chance to enjoy an outdoor learning day throughout the year.
