Students Participate In Topeka Model United Nations

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-A few hundred students from middle schools and high schools across Kansas participated in the 49th annual Model United Nations at the Ramada Inn Monday.

The Topeka Model United Nations provides an opportunity for students to simulate the United Nations and represent their point of views on a variety of issues and debate.

"It teaches kids how to debate, gets them out of their shells a little bit and also it shows these kind of issues can be solved and are being solved in the world right now," said Harrison Baker, Topeka West High School student.

" I think it’s awesome. I want to do this in my future, so it’s a lot of fun to get insight on what I would be doing. So, I really enjoy it it’s a lot of fun," said Nicole Tennant, Leavenworth High School freshman.

The Topeka Model UN is normally a 2-day event, but due to the snow, it has become a one day only event. And out of the 650 students who were supposed to attend, only 400 could make it.
