TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Stormont-Vail HealthCare wants to buy the Shawnee County Health Agency's main building.
Shawnee County Commissioners will consider the offer at their meeting Thursday. Stormont is offering $3 million for the building next to their main hospital on Southwest 8th. The building is appraised at just over $1.6 million.
Under the agreement, the health agency could stay in the building two years. Money from the sale would be used to acquire a new facility for the health agency.
Stormont spokesperson Nancy Burkhardt says the county first broached the potential for a sale several years ago. Stormont submitted a proposal then, but the issue fell by the wayside. Over the years, she says, Stormont and the health agency have worked closely on several health-related issues and intend to maintain that working relationship.
Burkhardt says Stormont has no immediate plans for how it would use the building. She says several options are being considered, given the building's location, essentially part of the Stormont campus.
If commissioners approve, a required public hearing would be held June 11th.
