Storm Damages Homes In North Shawnee County

TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)__ It's been a while since we have seen a good rain around here and some people who saw some Wednesday got a bit more than they bargained for...Not in terms of rainfall.. But from the wind!

People on North Topeka Boulevard near the Shawnee, Jackson county line saw gusts up to 70 miles per hour when the storm blew through around 5p.m.

Several homes had their roofs sheered of their shingles and another home had its back porch blown apart.

Trees had been knocked down and split and some telephone poles were leaning. Residents in the area were without power.

One resident told us that a family member who bales hay, reported the strong winds lifted 900 pound bales and tossed them across the field.

The National Weather Service said a microburst most likely moved through the area.
