(KAKE)-- Power has been restored to about 10,000 Westar Energy customers in Wichita.
The outage was reported Monday afternoon, and primarily impacted residents is southern and eastern portions of the city.
Authorities tell KAKE News, the source of the outage was a squirrel that crawled into equipment at a substation near Harry and I-135 and caused a transformer to blow out. That lead to a fire at the station that firefighters were able to bring quickly under control.
There are still sporadic outages across the city, but power has returned to the areas that were impacted by the transformer fire.
