TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office arrested a person Friday morning who led them on a chase north of Topeka that lasted about 14 minutes.

SGT Michael Wright said a deputy attempted to stop a blue 1995 Dodge Intrepid at NE 46th and Kincaid, Soldier, Friday, for suspicious activity at 12:26 a.m.

LT Jay Simecka said when the deputy attempted to make contact with the driver, Sherri Veltman, 22, of Topeka, she drove away, ignoring his commands for her to stop the car.

The car finally came to a stop seven miles from the location the pursuit started, at NW Topeka Boulevard and NW Walnut Grove. The car was stopped after running over "stop-stick" spikes deployed by Topeka Police at Topeka Boulevard and NW Menninger, which is about a block from Walnut Grove.

Veltman was charged with Flee and Elude, Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane of Traffic.
