TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-A special mission called upon three guardsmen of the 102nd Military History Detachment Friday that will be history in the making.
The mission is to record and document the various missions of the US military serving in Afghanistan in order to preserve the history of Operation Freedom.
Sergeant General Lee Tafanelli touched on the mission's significance, saying, "For furture generations to be able to look back and make sure we are accurate on the account of what happened and why it happened. What were the soldiers thinking at the time and it plays a valuable role at how we look at future missions, future operations and make sure we get the story correct now while its still fresh and as it's going on.
The soldiers will finish their training in Fort Dix New Jersey and then deploy for Afghanistan in support of operation enduring freedom.
