TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__A Silver Lake man is dead after a mowing accident turned fatal.
Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address north of Silver Lake at approximately 9:50 pm Monday night on a report of a missing person. Sheriff Deputies, Silver Lake Police and Silver Lake Fire Department personnel were searching for the missing man, who was last in contact with family members around 1:00 pm Monday afternoon, when they found him dead at approximately 10:15 pm near the 7500 block of NW Docking Rd.
Preliminary investigation indicated the man was the driver of a riding mower that overturned, pinning him under the mower. The victim, Bernie M. Menhusen, age 52, of Silver Lake was pronounced dead at the scene from the apparent injuries sustained as a result of the accident.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Shawnee County Coroner’s Office.
