TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-After selling out of 250 weather radios on Monday, Shawnee County residents had another opportunity to grab them at a discounted rate Wednesday evening.
Shawnee County Emergency Managent had 200 weather radios available for purchase at the West Ridge mall from 5-7 PM. Some customers were in line hours ahead of time.
Emergency Management Director Dave Sterbenz says its important to have multiple alert systems set up in case of emergency.
"What if a storm happens at two in the morning and you aren't watching tv at that time? It's important to have something that can alert you. We have great weatherman in Shawnee County but you aren't listening to them 24/7 so you need something that will get your attention.
Shawnee County Emergency Management will be selling more weather radios Friday (11/17) from 2-5 PM in the Shawnee County Courthouse cafeteria.
You must bring proof that you are a resident of Shawnee County and the only payment accepted is cash. Organizers are also limiting radios to one per household.
