Shawnee County Preps For Largest Workout

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) The 4th annual Shawnee County's Largest Workout will get moving Tuesday, Sept. 17at Washburn University's Yager Stadium.

A health fair begins at 6 pm, with the workout from 6:30 to 7 pm. An additional Zumba session is slated to follow. The activities are free, with free tshirts for the first 500 participants.

The event is part of a Week of Wellness planned by Topeka's Wellness Information Network. Part of their effort is the Million Step Challenge, encouraging the community to collectively put in one million steps. The program will sign people up and provide pedometers at the Largest Workout event.

In addition, MAKIN' MOVES offers free fitness classes from 5:30 to 6:10 pm and 6:15 to 7 pm every Tuesday and Thursday at Ross Elementary. The program also provides free health screenings. The next free screening session is from 5:30 to 7 pm Thursday, Sept. 19, at Ross Elementary School, 1400 SE 34th St. The program provides a free, comprehensive health screening from Washburn University Physical Therapist Assistant Program and School of Nursing. The screening includes blood pressure, blood sugar, height, weight, BMI, balance, flexibility and gait analysis.
