TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Shawnee County Commissioners got a look at the dark side of youth athletics in this country.

Shawnee County Athletic Supervisor, Brian Toby showed commissioners excerpts from a new reality show, "Friday Night Tykes."

The show highlights the pressures parents and coaches put on young athletes.

Toby told commissioners this type of bad behavior happens across the country and that's why the Parks and Rec Department has implemented a sportsmanship emphasis.

A standard for all sports activities around the county.

"We're not doing it to be the almighty police or anything like that. we just want a great environment for the kids. Its got to be positive for the kids. If you see the national average standard, something like 70 percent quit by the time they're 13," Toby.

Toby said he believes it's important for school children to participate in extra curricular activities.
