TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - It was all about the livestock at the Shawnee County Fair Thursday at the Kansas Expocentre.
Attendees had the chance to ride some ponies and enjoy some baked goodies at the bake sale Thursday morning.
Those involved with the animals say it's a great way to get kids involved.
"It teaches them responsibility," said Deanna Furman, Shawnee County Superintendent for the Livestock Project. "They set goals. They can go on from showing at a local level on to the national level."
"You get to make friends with the animals and they'll learn to like you a lot and they'll be loyal to you," said Parker Myers, who is showing goats this year.
The fair runs through Sunday. A list of events can be found at the provided link.
