TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County Appraisers Office is appealing a recent Court of Tax Appeals decision deeming a Topeka mansion worthless.
Appraiser Mark Hixon says the county was previously told an engineering study said costs to correct structural problems with a home at 5037 SW Urish Rd. would outweigh its $1.4 million value.
Hixon initially said his office would accept the decision, however, Thursday, he said the office has since received information that there may be other engineering reports which show the home is not as bad as thought.
Hixon cautioned that he has not actually seen any information yet, but filing the appeal gives the county a chance to look into whether any other engineering reports or further information exists. He says the county wants to be sure the decision was fair to everybody involved.
Thursday was the 30-day deadline by which the county had to file an appeal if it desired to do so.
