TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)__Sertoma chartered a new club in Wamego and held a banquet to celebrate.
The international service club expanded, bringing the number of Sertoma Clubs in Kansas to 13.
31 members were welcomed as charter members to the Wamego Sertoma Club Thursday evening and said they are already excited about getting started.
According to a release from Sertoma, the Wamego Club's community service projects will include: working with other organizations to create an after-school program, providing "Safe Ears" presentations to school children about how to protect their hearing, sponsoring a hearing aid recycling program for the elderly, and will also be partnering with the Wamego Library on summer activities for families along with other programs.
The Wamego Sertoma Club was built by community members and Sertomas from the Topeka clubs. They held their first event at the annual Tulip Festival in April.
