TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--Senator Jerry Moran along with several other senators will hold a press conference Tuesday to introduce bipartisan legislation to protect air traffic control towers.

The Protect Our Skies Act is co-sponsored by 18 different senators, including Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and David Vitter (R-La.).

It would prohibit the Department Of Transportation from closing any air traffic control towers, including those that are operated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The D.O.T. has delayed closing 149 towers due to legal challenges. The D.O.T. made the decision to close the towers as a result of sequestration cuts. The towers are now set to close on June 15th.
