(KAKE)-- An autopsy is planned for an inmate at the Sedgwick County Jail who died early Monday morning.
Around 12:15 a.m., jail and medical staff responded to a medical emergency in a single-person cell at the Sedgwick County Detention Facility. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m.
The 60-year-old man had been booked into the jail on June 27 on City of Wichita bench warrants but his identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy is planned for later today.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and sheriff's detectives were notified of the death, per policy.
This is the first in-custody death of 2013. Last year, there were two suicides and three deaths related to natural causes at the jail.
