TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Voters in the north Topeka area's USD 345 Seaman school district approved a $57 million bond issue Tuesday.
The final unofficial tally was 66 percent yes, 34 percent no.
Money from the bond issue will fund construction of a new middle school and renovate the current middle school into elementary school space. In addition, new classrooms will be built at Elmont, North Fairview and West Indianola.
With the new space, Rochester and Pleasant Hill elementary schools will eventually close.
The bond issue will cost the owner of a $150,000 home approximately $18 a year more in property taxes.
